Emotional 2015 USPHS Symposium in Atlanta
Surgeon General Vivek Murthy motivated everyone. Acting Assistant Secretary for Health Karen DeSalvo said, if confirmed, that she would put on the uniform of the Public Health Service. Retired RADM Jim Curran of the Emory Rollins School of Public Health talked about the early days of tracking HIV/AIDS. Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice of the Morehouse School of Medicine welcomed people to Atlanta.
The 50th annual USPHS Symposium was also very emotional. RADM Boris Lushniak announced his retirement plans. Surgeon General Murthy announced that RADM Sylvia Trent-Adams would become Deputy Surgeon General. The PHS Ensemble Concert dedicated songs to the Ebola responders and to the people of West Africa. And then there was author Mike Stobbe's talk during the formal Anchor & Caduceus Dinner, which got everyone riled up.
